Wilmington Grand Prix
Saturday, May 19, 2012
In its sixth year, The Wilmington Grand Prix is a three-day USA Cycling National event. The event features time trails, a downtown figure-eight criterium, the Grand Prix Gran Fondo, a parade and festival. Wilmington Jaycees are planning to volunteer to help the race run smoothly. They are in greatest need of course marshals on Saturday, May 19 throughout the day, but could also use course marshals for the Monkey Hill Time Trial on Friday night. The job of the course marshal is to protect the intersection they are assigned to, and to keep people off the street as the riders approach and hold them there until it's safe to cross the street. No experience is necessary, and they have 2 training classes scheduled for next Tuesday - at 12:15 pm and 5:45 pm at the Bike Boutique in the Nemours Building. Volunteers should attend one of these meetings. To sign up, follow this link to the Volunteers page on the Grand Prix website. Volunteers get a free t-shirt and a whistle!

Soles4Souls
In a whirlwind, last minute effort to help those in Haiti, the Delaware State Jaycees teamed up with Soles4Souls to collect over 100 pairs of shoes during our Delaware State Convention on Saturday, January 28. Our efforts, coupled with many others in Delaware, collected over 13,800 pairs of shoes. “Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria.” Way to go Jaycees!!
