LISA MARIE SHAW
2002 OUTSTANDING
YOUNG WILMINGTONIAN
by WILMINGTON JAYCEES
Recipient has devoted 17 years to community service projects
The Wilmington Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) have named
Lisa Marie Shaw as the 2002 “Outstanding Young Wilmingtonian” of the
year.
The
award is granted each year to the individual from the Wilmington area
who exemplifies service to the local community through personal
improvement or accomplishment; social improvement to major contemporary
problems; philanthropic contribution or voluntary service; government service;
scientific or technological contributions; and academic leadership or
accomplishments, among other factors.
Shaw
is a global data coordinator for Uniqema and is the fundraising chair
for Prevent Child Abuse Delaware. She has been involved in various
community service projects for more than 17 years. A native of Wilmington, Shaw now resides in Newark with her two children.
“It
is imperative in life that we act as examples to our children,” said
Shaw, “and volunteering your time and energy for a cause in which you
believe reiterates a sense of kindness and selflessness in them, and
that's my main motivation for what I do. It is my hope that my children
will follow in my footsteps one day and pick up where I left off."
Shaw’s volunteer work during the past 17 years has included:
 | Secretary to the
founding board, fundraising chair: Supporting
KIDDS (Kids in Death, Divorce and Separation);
|
 | Volunteer, Creative
Grandparenting;
|
 | Board Member, Ministry
of Caring;
|
 | Fundraiser, Muscular
Dystrophy Association;
|

“Lisa spends countless hours each week on various projects and
causes. She would help any person in need while looking for nothing in
return,” said Mark Oller, a managing director at Wilmington Trust, who
nominated Shaw for the award.
Shaw said her work with Prevent
Child Abuse Delaware is particularly fulfilling. "I'm privileged to
work with the talented and dedicated Staff and Board members of PCAD,”
said Shaw. “It's a true team atmosphere and thankfully their spirit is
contagious."
As the Outstanding Young Wilmingtonian, Shaw
is eligible to compete on the state level for the Outstanding Young
Delawarean. The honoree of this award is considered by the U.S. Junior
Chamber of Commerce for the “Ten Outstanding Young Americans.”
The runner-up for 2002 OYW award was Thomas Hanson, Jr., an
associate with the Wilmington law firm, Morris James Hitchens &
Williams. Hanson is a volunteer for the Louis Redding Scholars and the
Delmarva Red Cross, among other organizations.
Past OYW recipients include: James Baker; Peggy Ableman; Paul
